Major

Requirements

The IRLL major offers a 30-credit major with either (a) a language or (b) a literature focus. In each case, students must take a minimum of nine courses after they have completed Intermediate Irish I (third semester language). These comprise the following:

(a) Language-Focus        

  • Intermediate Irish II
  • Advanced Irish I and II --  I (fall) II (spring) 
  • IRLL Survey I  course (Great Irish Writers) (20000-level)  (offered in fall only)
  • IRLL Survey II course (Modern Literature in Irish) (20000-level)  (offered in spring only)
  • Five IRLL elective courses (taken at the 30000/40000 level in Irish literature, culture, and folklore); this must include one 40000-seminar taught in Irish

(b) Literature-Focus

  • Intermediate Irish II
  • IRLL Survey I course (Great Irish writers)  (20000-level)  (offered in fall only)
  • IRLL Survey II course (Modern Literature in Irish) (20000-level) (offered in spring only)
  • Seven IRLL elective courses (taken at the 30000/40000 level in Irish literature, culture, and folklore)

 

In addition, both (a) and (b) offer a 24-credit supplemental major with two fewer electives.
