Mr John Prendergast is from Tralee, Co. Kerry. John is delighted to be the Fulbright FLTA for the University of Notre Dame this year. John, a former ICUF Scholar, has spent the last two years lecturing Irish language in Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. John received a BCL (Law and Irish) degree from University College Cork, and his MA in Welsh and Celtic Studies from Cardiff University, attaining first-class honours in both. John's research interests include linguistic justice, language rights and critical theories of language revitalisation. At University level, John has previously taught Irish at the University of Montana, Cardiff University, and Saint Mary's University. John has also instructed language courses in Gaeltachtaí such as West Kerry, West Clare and (a few miles West) of Kingston, Ontario. During his time at Notre Dame, John will be taking modules from the Law School of Notre Dame and learning other languages. A proud Kerryman, John is hoping to play some Gaelic football (and a bit of hurling!) during his time here.
