Through the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies and the Hesburgh Libraries, the University provides scholars with the resources, funding, and intellectual community necessary to advance innovative research in Irish language, history, and culture.
Notre Dame-Fulbright Postdoctoral Irish Language Fellowship
In partnership with Fulbright Ireland, the Program for Irish Language Initiatives and the Keough-Naughton Institute (KNI) offer a fellowship for accomplished early-career scholars and recent doctoral graduates. This fellowship facilitates the exchange of ideas and contributes to the intellectual life of the KNI.
Funding and Library Research Awards
The University offers dedicated financial support to visiting scholars through the Keough-Naughton Library Research Award in Irish Studies. Jointly sponsored by the Keough-Naughton Institute, Notre Dame Global, and the Irish Language Initiatives, these grants assist researchers in accessing the university's specialized holdings.
The Hesburgh Libraries: Irish Studies Collections
The Hesburgh Libraries house the most comprehensive Irish-language printed collection in North America. With over 8,500 volumes and a vast array of primary source materials, the library provides an unrivaled foundation for scholarly inquiry. The collection also includes extensive microfilm, a DVD archive, signed first editions, and access to all major digitized Irish databases.
