Irish Language Fulbright FLTA
The Fulbright FLTA Program, sponsored by the United States Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), is designed to develop Americans' knowledge of foreign cultures and languages by supporting teaching assistantships in more than 35 languages at hundreds of U.S. institutions of higher education.
The program offers educators from over 55 countries the opportunity to develop their professional skills and gain first-hand knowledge of the U.S., its culture, and its people. U.S. campuses enhance their teaching of languages and expose students to a true understanding of people from different nations.
The University of Notre Dame was among the first American universities to host a Fulbright FLTA and has hosted many FLTAs through the Center for the Studies of Culture and Langauges over the years who have gone on to distinguished careers.
Fulbright FLTAs teach classes, conduct peer-tutoring, and organize pop-up Gaeltachtaí events and associated cultural events at Halloween, Christmas, and St Patrick’s Day.
