Globally Engaged Citizens program
Notre Dame’s Globally Engaged Citizens program rewards the learning and experiences you are already engaging in — and will stand out on your resume and show employers and graduate schools that you’re prepared to be a global citizen.
Students in any college or school can earn the certificate by taking two classes and participating in cultural activities on and off campus. You may already be well on your way to meeting the requirements.

Welcome to Tae is Plé (Tea and Conversation)
This is our student Irish language conversation group! This group is open to anyone learning Irish or would like to learn Irish on campus. It provides an opportunity to use Irish in a social setting through conversation, and activities such as music, games and media.

Library Resources
The Hesburgh Libraries have one of the most extensive collections of Irish studies in the world. In support of the Keough-Naughton Institute of Irish Studies, the collection includes books and other materials on many disciplines with particular strengths in Irish language and literature, Irish literature in English, Irish history, music, folklore, sociology, religion and art.

Irish Language Media
- Tuairisc.ie provides a news service in Irish for the Irish speaking community in Ireland and abroad. Their objective is to serve the interests of that community through the generation, collection and publication of high-quality news, information, analysis and entertainment.
- TG4, the Irish language television channel, is an independent statutory entity (Teilifís na Gaeilge). The channel has been on-air since late 1996. TG4 is a free-to-air channel, available across all viewing platforms, with a strong viewer base throughout the island of Ireland.
- RTE is a media outlet that serves as an independent source of stories, news, information and entertainment for Ireland, reflecting the diversity of its people and providing experiences that enrich the lives of all.
Dictionaries
- Foclóirí ár linne, Foras na Gaeilge's dictionary website where you will find An Foclóir Nua Gaeilge [the new monolingual Irish dictionary] (2025) and the New English-Irish Dictionary (2013-2025). Both dictionaries are available free of charge and have been adapted to work on both desktop computers and mobile devices.
- Resource.ie has dictionaries and terminology lists, as well as texts about the craft of translation, and a repository of Irish texts. There is also a forum where you can ask questions and give advice to each other about aspects of the language.
- The New English-Irish Dictionary provides free and ready access to lexical, grammatical and phonetic data relating to words in Irish.
- The Term.ie project is the national terminology database for the Irish language, managed by the Gaois , Fiontar & Scoil na Gaeilge (DCU) research group in collaboration with the Terminology Committee , Foras na Gaeilge .
Other Resources
- Established in 2004, Coláiste na hÉireann/Gaelchultúr is the largest provider of Irish language courses in the world and the first third-level Irish language institution.
- Fuaimeanna na Gaeilge – The Sounds of Irish - offers access to maps, images and sound files intended for students and scholars wishing to learn about the pronunciation of modern Irish and the variations found in the present-day dialects.
