Summer Language Abroad: An Ghaeltacht
Length: 4 Weeks
Each year a number of students are awarded Summer Language Abroad (SLA) grants to pursue the intensive Irish-language immersion program, featuring full time classes with homestay, in the Irish-speaking region of Gaeltacht in the West of Ireland. Programs are run by Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, in the Galway Gaeltacht, and by Oideas Gael in the Donegal Gaeltacht. The Dublin Program
Length: Semester or Academic Year
The home of the Dublin program is the Keough-Naughton Notre Dame Centre in O’Connell House on Merrion Square in the historic heart of Dublin’s capital. Each semester, Notre Dame students enroll for the courses in the ND-Dublin Centre, at Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin and the National College of Art and Design. The program includes several fieldtrips and a variety of social and cultural activities. Students taking Irish language and literature courses have a distinct advantage when applying for these highly competitive programs. This program is offered by Notre Dame International.

Dublin Summer
Length: 6 weeks
Summer Dublin is a program that gives an introduction to Ireland. It is conducted at the Notre Dame Dublin, nestled in the heart of Georgian Dublin. The program focuses on the history, culture, and literature of Ireland. Three courses will be offered during the six-week program. All students will take the mandatory course "Introduction to Ireland" and have a choice between either "Reading the Irish Revival" literature course or an engineering course.

Summer Internships in Ireland
Keough-Naughton
Length: 8 weeks
The Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies annually awards internships which place undergraduates in internship positions in Dublin relating to Irish politics and commerce, culture and society. In the past, students have been placed in the Irish parliament, government departments, the Irish Film organizations, the Irish Folklore Archives, and various social service organizations. The award covers airfare which must be booked through our recommended provider (up to a maximum of $1500), accommodation for 8 weeks at University College Dublin (UCD) summer residences, health insurance for the 8 weeks, ground transport to and from work, airport pick-up on arrival, a Cultural Enrichment Program and living expenses (to cover food and other reasonable living expenses). Applications are due in January.
Irish Language Internship
Length: 8 weeks
The Irish Language and Literature Department funds one internship for an IRLL student to intern with an Irish language organization in Ireland over the summer. The award covers airfare which must be booked through our recommended provider (up to a maximum of $1500), accommodation for 8 weeks at University College Dublin (UCD) summer residences, health insurance for the 8 weeks, ground transport to and from work, airport pick-up on arrival, a Cultural Enrichment Program and living expenses (to cover food and other reasonable living expenses). Applications are due in January.

Funding to do research in Ireland
Create your own research project and get it funded with help from the Flatley Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement (CUSE), which holds regular grant-writing workshops to help turn your idea into a reality. Grants include summer and academic year grants through the Franco Institute's undergraduate funding opportunities, and Arts & Letters grants.
